Clear Liquid Diet Plan, Explained

Orlando GI doctors explain liquid diets.

Ever heard of a clear liquid diet? It’s pretty self-explanatory. It’s a diet in which one consumes exclusively clear liquids. This includes water, broth, plain gelatin, some juices, etc. The liquids consumed can be colored as long as you can see through them—hence, the clear part. Solid foods are an absolute no-no when on this diet. With this in mind, our Orlando GI experts at the Digestive and Liver Center of Florida will be going over why anyone would be put on this diet, what you can “eat”, and the pros and cons of it. Check it out!

Why Is the Purpose of a Clear Liquid Diet?

Liquid diets are usually recommended by Orlando GI physicians when they have to perform tests or procedures on a patient. Think about it, if you’re going to get a colonoscopy, it’s best to have to food in your stomach or intestines so that the doctor will be able to see your colon clearly, and spot any issues (if any). This type of nourishment is also recommended as a short-term diet if you’re undergoing digestive problems like nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, even after specific types of surgeries.

What Does this Diet Consists of?

When you’re on this diet, the goal is to keep your body hydrated while providing you with sufficient vitamins and minerals for energy. The Orlando GI doctors at DLCFL also say it’s also a good way to keep your stomach and intestines rested (especially if you have digestive problems). If you’re placed on a clear liquid diet and don’t know how to plan out your meals, our Orlando GI experts have got you covered.
